Elite Mud's Newbie Area
Newbie Main | Shops in Midgaard | Guilds | Commands

Shops are places where the adventurer may purchase equipment for his quests, and where he may sell his treasure if he should manage to survive the perils with his life and sanity intact. Many shops trade only in a specific type of merchandise. Thus, a baker may well refuse to buy your armor, even if its of high quality!

To some people, the prospect of obtaining the entire inventory of a shop by murdering the keeper may appear tempting - but beware: The shopkeepers are often rugged, capable men; roughened by years of trading, and indeed, surviving in a world where the only safe prospect is death in the end.

Bottom line: Don't attack shopkeepers!

>list - Will display the items for sale.
>buy ITEM - Buy an item. (example: buy sword)
>sell ITEM - Sell an item the shopkeeper deals with.

If you're having trouble figuring out what item belongs to what shop, The Magic Shop sells scrolls of identity, (type buy identify). Recite the scroll, (recite identify itemname) and it should tell you what sort of object it is. For example, I'll type recite identify plate and this is what I'll get:

You recite a scroll if identify which disolves.
You feel informed:
Object -='breast plate'=-, Item type: ARMOR
Item is: - Anti Class: magic-user psionicist wizard illusionist
Weight: [100], Value: [10000] Min Level: [0]
AC-apply is 7

I have put Item Type in bold and the actual type in yellow. The ARMOR message means The Armory should buy your breastplate.

Please note, though, that scrolls of identify are expensive for newbies. They are 2500 gold coins each. And another thing you should know is that the shops won't always buy your items if they have already bought too many items from other players, (they run out of money if people aren't buying from them!).
